Just call me a gym rat!

It has been way too long! I do have an excuse though. I have started on the super fun journey of losing weight! I have been working out 8-10 workouts a week and I am exhausted pretty much all the time. The other day, my 10-year-old asked me, "Doesn't your trainer know that you have kids?" I guess she was feeling a little neglected! For the most part the kids have been fantastic and the two older ones are really supportive and get SOOOOO excited when I lose a couple of pounds! I'll just never understand why it's so easy to put weight on, and so terribly hard to take it off!! AND, why it takes SOOOO long to get in shape and it only takes a couple of days to get out of shape!

So, now for the really exciting part...I have lost 21 pounds in 2 1/2 months!! It's definitely not as fast as I would like it to be but I'm trying to do it the healthy way and I guess that means slow and steady! I hired a trainer and she is AMAZING! I honestly love her! She not only tells me what I need to do but she is so supportive emotionally and mentally! And that is truly what I need! Hopefully, things will continue to go well and I can stay on track! Wish me luck!

Picking battles....

My 2-year-old has started changing her clothes once or twice a day (sometimes more), my 6-year-old thinks if we aren't having chicken nuggets and fries for dinner that whatever it is we are eating is disgusting, my 10-year-old has decided that whenever I am disciplining someone she needs to add her 2 cents as well, and my 12-year-old tells me that I am the meanest mom in the world because I won't let him have a cell phone and EVERYBODY else at school has one. Seriously, he is the ONLY 6th grader in all of Grand Junction that doesn't have his own cell phone!

So, I've always heard the term "Pick your battles" but sometimes I have a really hard time letting go of some things. Kaylen changing her clothes doesn't bug me at all. It did when Braedy did it and I actually put her clothes where she couldn't get to them. (I know, I was sooooooooo mean!!) But now, with Kaylen, I just think it is adorable! I don't even mind taking her out in whatever she chooses. That's not to say that my feelings won't change when she is in school.

Jayden's dilema doesn't really get to me either. I think it's funny that he honestly believes that he is the only 12-year-old ever to not have a cell phone! Scott tells him that he was 32 when he got his first cell phone so Jayden can wait until then too! We are so mean! I wouldn't be against getting him a cell phone except that it's just another expense and something that he can break, lose or have stolen. It would be nice to have something I could take away as punishment though!!

Masen is driving me CRAZY with the whole dinner thing, though. Seriously, he won't eat anything unless he has had it before and remembers eating it and liking it. So that narrows my choices to chicken nuggets, mac and cheese and spaghetti. NO LIE! Everything else, he hates automatically. And he cries all through dinner making it miserable for the rest of us! I have never had a child like this! What do I do? This is a battle that I have decided I need to pick. Otherwise, he'll never learn to like anything! (Any advice would be greatly appreciated!)

Braedy is driving me a little bonkers as well! She wants to be the mom soooooo bad! And when I tell her it isn't her job she says, "Well, someday I will be the mom and I need to learn how to do it!" GRRR!! I'm not quite sure what to do about this either! I'm at my wits end with her! Her brothers can't stand it when she tries to discipline them and I don't blame them one bit!

These are just a few of the battles that I deal with every day. Some are bigger, some are smaller but isn't it amazing that each child has their own issues that make them unique? It sure makes it hard as a mom though to figure out how to deal with each one in the appropriate way!! I have learned that being a mom means having a sense of humor, knowing when to pull in the reins, and doing it all with kindness and love. It sure ain't easy but, good heavens, is it worth it!!

My baby is growing up!

I am excited, and a little saddened by the events of today. It was by baby's 2nd birthday! She is so much fun and I enjoy her every single day, but I want her to stay little and never, ever grow up! Kids grow up WAY too fast! And I realize it more with each one of my kids. It's kind of tough because half the time I feel like I'm still a kid and here I am with 4 kids of my own!! Time goes so fast so my new resolution (I know, it's not New Year's, but still....) is to savor each and every single moment of my kids lives. Before I know it they will be all grown up and making me an old Grandma! So, I'm going to try and slow things down as much as possible. I'm going to let more things slide. I'm going to be OK if my house isn't perfect every day. I'm going to play more board games. I'm going to get down on the floor and just enjoy my kids!

Being a mom has been the best thing I have ever done in my entire life. Because of that, I want to be the best thing that has ever happened in my kids' lives. Wish me luck!

Trials

When we moved to GJ, we were asked to speak in church. It was the week before Thanksgiving so we were given the topic of Giving Thanks. Scott and I both kind of touched on being thankful for trials and how they only make you stronger, etc. Little did I know I would have to take those words to heart just a few months later! We are really struggling to figure out what will be best for our family and this point. Scott has an amazing job here in GJ, great pay, lots of time off but he doesn't love the hours and it's a little more responsibility than he would like. But Jay and Brae are both struggling to make friends and Jay is still being bullied. We loved it in Boise and all of us were so happy there. We still have a house there that we are unable to sell, but Scott doesn't have a job there and even if he did, it wouldn't pay him anywhere near what he makes here.

So, I started thinking, money isn't everything and I would much rather see my kids be happy and have lots of friends than have a fat paycheck every month. I was at the point that I wanted to leave Scott here and move back to Boise with the kids until Scott could find a job there. But then I started thinking again, maybe Jayden needs to be here and go through these trials to make him stronger and teach him things that he otherwise would never learn. Don't get me wrong, it SUCKS watching him go through this trial, but I would hate to take it away from him if it is what our Father in Heaven needs him to go through at this point in his life. Jayden is such a great kid and it is heartbreaking to know that there are people in his life that will never know what an amazing person he is just because he is an easy target for them. But the awesome thing about having the restored gospel and all the truth that comes with that, is I know that his Heavenly Father knows how amazing he is and what he is capable of and that He will never give Jayden anything he can't handle. My job as his mother in this life is to help him to build his testimony and stay close to our Father in Heaven. It is a daunting task, especially in this terrible world we live in, but one that I am absolutely commited to and am so grateful to have!!

So, eventhough it is one of the hardest things I've ever had to go through, I will contuine to help Jay through this trial and all the trials that will come and I will put my trust and faith in my Heavenly Father and my Savior and know that everything will work out the way that it should. Sometimes the journey takes us down paths that we would rather not be on but if we let our Savior be our guide, we will ALWAYS make it to our destination.

Health and Strength

You know the old saying, 'Ya don't know what ya got 'til it's gone'? Well I have been reminded of this the past couple of weeks. I always take my health for granted when I have it and it always takes me getting sick before I realize how blessed I am to be healthy!! My kids have been passing around a cold for the past couple of weeks and it finally worked it's way to me!! I have been flat on my back for the past couple of days but I'm finally feeling well enough to get up and at 'em today. I have been washing sheets and blankets and spraying down my house with Lysol. Hopefully, the worst is over and we can officially say we are well!!

Anyway, it is so easy to overlook my blessings when the are right in front of me. Sometimes those blessings have to be taken away before I realize how truly blessed I am. I wish I could always be grateful for all that I am given but then I guess I wouldn't be human, right?

I am so grateful that Scott and I have our health and that we have four healthy and happy children. Life is awesome!!

Enjoy the journey, Come what may and LOVE it!!

I loved Elder Wirthlin's talk in the last General Conference! He has always been one of my favorite General Authority's to listen to. And President Monson gave an awesome talk on enjoying the journey. They both had a very similar message and they have been on my mind a lot lately.

This life is way too hard and way too short to be unhappy. There is SOOOOOOO much to be grateful for to dwell on what isn't perfect in my life. I have recently realized that the things that are most important to me are the things that make me happy. Those things are my family and the gospel. Everything else that comes my way is just gravy! I have to say that I feel very blessed. I have been given so much, more than I deserve! But it can be so easy to fall into a rut and feel sorry for myself.

Why is it so easy to focus on negative things? And the things that I don't have or the things that I wish I did have? When I start feeling like this, I just take a step back and really focus on what I do have and I really feel blessed. I have four beautiful, healthy, amazing kids, a husband who supports our family and makes it possible for me to stay home and raise our children, the true gospel in my life, and most importantly, my Savior who loves me no matter what my feelings are on any given day!!

I have decided that it doesn't matter where I live, how big my house is, what kind of car I drive, or how out of fashion my clothes are. I have everything that is really important and I need to focus on those things and strive to make them better every single day. So, come what may, I will love it and I will enjoy the journey!!!

I'm back and vowing to be better!

Why does life have to be so hectic? I feel like I don't have time for anything! Oh well, I guess that's just how it is! But I am making a resolution to be better at blogging! It is really therapeutic for me and we all know that I can use all the therapy I can get!!! Anyway, I am without my husband and first-born this weekend. They went to Boise to visit friends, mostly for Jay. He is having a really hard time right now. Being in middle school, it has been really hard for him to make friends and there is one stinker that is making it even harder for him! One of the boys at school is spreading rumors about Jay and telling kids not to talk to him. Why do kids have to be so cruel? I will never understand it! I was a victim of this myself in junior high but it is so much harder to watch your child go through and know that there is absolutely nothing you can do to take away their pain! I have talked to the school counselor about it and I think she is trying to deal with it. Anyway, this trip is going to be great for Jay, I just hope that it doesn't make him extremely homesick for Boise.

On a lighter note, Braedy is doing really well in gymnastics. Her coach wants her to start practicing with the comp team. She won't compete for probably another year but I just can't believe that she is getting there already! Pretty exciting! She just learned how to do a back hand spring all by herself! It won't be long before she's flipping all over!!

Not much is new with Mase. He is still loving school and video games. He wanted to be in gymnastics so we signed him up and is absolutely loving it!! It is going to be great for him to build strength and coordination. He has taken off with reading. He can sound out just about anything he wants to. He is amazing!

Kaylen also started gymnastics. It's a parent assisted class. She loves it! She is such an active little girl, it's been good for her to have an outlet. She needs more of them though. She gets into everything! The other day I found her in my bathroom with my make-up bag and a tube of mascara that she had somehow got open and she was painting my bathroom rug black! Luckily it was not waterproof so I just ran it through the washer and it is as good as new!

I love being these kids' mother! It is the best job in the world. I just wish it didn't have to come with heartache! It is so hard to watch your kids go through their trials. So much harder than going through your own! I am just so thankful for the knowledge of my Savior, Jesus Christ and the price he paid for me and each and every person on this earth! Only he understands our pain and can take that pain away! I don't know how I could make it through this life without that knowledge! I am so blessed to have the true gospel in my life!
